magnífica reseña de The amazing Maurice
and his Educated Rodents, del
¡Gracias, Jake!

As you might know, Terry Pratchett is the author of
the great novel: The Discworld, which
is a large collection of novels set in a spectacular world that lies on the
back of six elephants, which, at the same time, are on the back of giant
turtle, thus no one knows if it is a he or she. Of all the novels written in The Discworld, my favorite is the Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents.
Maurice is a talking cat that leads a group of (as he
calls them) “educated rodents”. These go town to town faking a plague so that a
“stupid kid”, calling himself the pied piper of Hamelin, draws them away in an
exchange of money. This money is shared in between the group of mice, Maurice
and the kid, as they all have there one dream (for example, the mice want to
start their own civilization, for which they need money).
Everything was going as planned until they cross by a
town where weird things seem to happen. Having a rich architecture and culture,
this town is poor with no food, and they have a much more aggressive type of
traps and poisons. Also, seeing the tyranny of Maurice, the rats try to rebel themselves,
but they are drawn back by many factors.
In my opinion, this book is a small masterpiece that I
could not stop reading, with a very “English humor” that is not always too
obvious. For those who want a challenge, I highly recommend it.
